Bless Our Gifts: An Advent Charity Drive

“Give to others, and God will give to you …” (Luke 6:38)

Opening Prayer

God of all that is good and holy,
bless the gifts that we have collected
for those in need.
Bless them with hope and strength.
May these gifts
help them on their journeys.
As you care for us,
help us on our journeys, too.
We make this prayer in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

The Early Christians Share Their Gifts

(Acts 2:42-46)

A reading from the Acts of the Apostles

They spent their time in learning from the apostles, taking part in the fellowship, and sharing in the fellowship and the prayers. Many miracles and wonders were being done through the apostles and everyone was filled with awe.

All the believers continued together in close fellowship and shared their belongings with one another. They would sell their property and possessions, and distribute the money among all, according to what each one needed. Day after day they met as a group in the Temple, and they had their meals together in their homes, eating with glad and humble hearts, praising God, and enjoying the good will of all the people.

The word of the Lord
Thanks be to God

Blessing of the Gifts

Loving God, may our gifts be pleasing to you.
Make our homes, school,
and community
places of blessing this Advent season.
God of hope and generosity,
we await Christmas
and we prepare our hearts.
We give thanks for the gifts before us.
All: We bless these gifts.
We give thanks to those who gave these gifts.
All: We bless those who gave these gifts.
We give thanks for those who organized this drive.
All: We bless those who organized this drive.
We pray for those who will receive these gifts.
All: We bless those who will receive these gifts.

Closing Prayer

Loving God, we thank you
and bless your holy name.
May this Advent action help prepare
our hearts and our world
for the celebration of your birth
at Christmas.
We make this prayer
in the name of Jesus,
Prince of Peace

Amen
